Greece is best seen from the water. Half the coastline worth swimming at has no road to it, and a boat day usually turns out to be the part of the trip people remember. The main choice is scale: a large cruise boat is cheaper and social, a small semi-private catamaran is calmer, and a private charter lets you decide the route.
What to look for
Sunset catamaran cruises
Five to six hours along a coastline with swim stops, a simple meal on board and the sunset at the end. The classic Santorini day, but also excellent in Milos, Paros and Crete.
Sea caves and small-boat trips
Smaller boats reach caves, sea arches and coves that big catamarans skip — Paxos and Antipaxos, Kefalonia and the Milos coast are the best examples.
Island-hopping day trips
Day sails to a nearby island, such as Delos from Mykonos or Antipaxos from Corfu, combining a short crossing with beach time.
Private charters
Worth it for families or small groups: you set the departure time, choose the beaches, and skip the crowded afternoon stops.

Paxos & Antipaxos
Turquoise water, sea caves along the west coast and some of the clearest swimming in Greece.

Good to know
- Morning departures are calmer; the Aegean wind (meltemi) usually picks up after midday in July and August.
- Ask whether the price includes food, drinks and transfers to the port — that is where quotes differ most.
- Semi-private boats cap guest numbers; large cruises can carry a hundred people for a similar sunset.
- If anyone in the group is prone to seasickness, choose a catamaran over a monohull and book the earlier slot.
